Haywood Park is located along with our Township Offices and Fire Station on North Long Lake Road. Haywood Park offers outdoor basketball and tennis courts, an official bocce ball court, a 1/3 mile running-walking track, a shaded picnic area, and playground equipment. This is all open to the public. The park also has three baseball diamonds and two soccer fields available for reservation by calling 231-946-2249.
Taylor Park is one of our Township’s two public beaches, offering a place to swim with a natural, beautifully forested setting. It is located directly across from Long Lake Grocery on North Long Lake Road. Taylor Park has a beach and swimming area, a volleyball court, a small dock (not for diving!) and a naturally shaded picnic area. Taylor Park is handicap accessible. We recently installed mobi-mats on the beach for lake accessibility.
Gilbert Park is another popular public beach. It has a sunny, sandy beach area and a grassy picnic area to relax in the shade. In addition to the swimming and picnic areas Gilbert Park also has two beach volleyball courts that are provided for public use. Gilbert Park also offers a boat launch and dock outside of the swim area.
Bullhead Lake Natural Area
Thanks to the efforts of Friends the of Bullhead Lake and the Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund, our township is able to offer the Bullhead Lake Natural Area. This Natural Area is a piece of undeveloped property where the natural environment of our area can be preserved and enjoyed. The Natural Area is a home to many frogs, fish, birds and other wildlife that depend on wetlands and the forest that would be greatly disturbed by development. There is no swimming or camping at Bullhead Lake but enjoying the beautiful scenery provided by Mother Nature is permitted.
The entrance to the Natural Area is inconspicuously located on Edgewood Avenue off of North Long Lake Road. There is a sign marking the trailhead though, so keep your eyes peeled!
Crescent Shores Boat Launch
In addition to the boat launch located at Gilbert Park, which is a high traffic area, our township offers a second location located at the end of Crescent Shores Road, off of West Long Lake Road.
Twin Lakes is owned by Grand Traverse County. Call 231-922-4818 for more information.
South Long Lake Forest Natural Area
This is a 228 acre parcel accessed off South Long Lake Road where there is a parking lot and an information station. Established trails are well marked from this entrance. You can also access the Natural Area off Bass Lake Road unto Luhr's Trail. There is no designated parking at this entrance.

Cedar Run Creek Natural Area
It consists of 316 acres of open space and 1500 feet of frontage on Cedar Lake. There are some designated trails on the property and the entire boundary is marked. The trails continue to be a work in progress. There is a designated parking area at the Trailhead off Cedar Lake Road. The west end of the Natural Area is in Almira Township, Benzie County. There is no designated parking but you can access the property off Tucker Road.

Property is located just past Westwoods Elementary School on Fisher Road and has hiking trails, benches for resting weary bones and educational signs. Although the trail is short, it's still a great walk in the woods or place to sit and enjoy nature.
Timbers Recreation Area
Long Lake Township and the Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy is working to permanently protect this property and to create the Timbers Recreation Area. The 250 acre (+/-) property boasts nearly 9,000 feet of water frontage with 2,000 feet of frontage on Long Lake, an entire 20-acre lake within its boundary - Fern Lake - with 4,500 feet of shoreline, and roughly 2,400 feet on Page Lake.
